One question, and then I'll give you some "wild geese" to chase (hopefully one of them will work out!) I don't recall ever seeing a middle initial for Jesse. Where did you find it, and do you know what the "M" stands for? TIA Checked my notes and found: From Brandon chart -- "As far as we can trace - William BARTEE and wife - either Mary BALLARD or Mary BOLLING - are the originators of the line of Jesse and Sara HARKLEROAD BARTEE." Sorry, but they didn't give any reason of why they believed this or any proof (sigh). Here's another maybe. This is from some typed notes I "inherited" from another Bartee researcher. It is just a list of marriages, but one of them struck some of us as the possible parents of Jesse. This was based upon the county where the marriage occurred. Can't remember why that county was important now (this isn't my line). Anyway...William Bartee & Mary Dabbs, m. 25 Jun 1793, Bedford Co., VA. Interesting that it is a William & Mary again as mentioned above, just a different last name for Mary. The source for this one is not too precise, just 1700 - 1850 Virginia Marriages (39 Vol.) The third item I wanted to give you I can't find right now. It was some document filed at the county level in TN and referred to Jesse Bartee as being formerly of _____, VA. My TN Bartee notes are more than 70 pages, so I need to go off-line and look for it (hopefully it is filed and not among the "needs to be filed" mess!) I will post it beneath this when I find it. Please let me know if any of this pans out.
