I expect that your Bartee ancestors are out of the Norfolk Co. Bartee family, Mine went to Hyde Co. I once came across an Anthony Bartee in Pasquotank Co in either the 1790 census or that earlier State (1782 ?)Census. Andrigan Bartee left a Norfolk Co.Va. Will that is not written up in the published Norfolk Co. Wills. It was proved 18 Jan. 1749. The Will is missing big sections where something ate holes in it. Also there is a division of property, Norfolk Co. Book 18 pg34.( 1756). He had 4 sons Joel who went to Hyde Co.NC (My line), Anthony , William and John. Anthony and William were at that time shiprights of Norfolk Co. There is 1754 guardianship for John, son of Anderigan Bartee.. I suspect the reason that the property division took so long, was to allow John to come of age. If you connect back to this, I have data that goes back through Anderigan's father Robert. I think that Robert was the immigrant but am not certain of his origin. I loose this John from the tax or tithable lists after 1765 but do find a 1781 Will for a John who has a son Andre and a daughter Ann Herbert and wife Mary. I don't know if this is the same John or not. There is no John found on the Norfolk Co. Tithable lists from 1766-1780. This line is not the only possibility since Andrigan had two brothers. His Brother Samuel died in 1764 in Norfolk Co and left 3 sons Isaac, Samuel and James. His brother Robert died in Norfolk Co.1782 leaving sons Thomas, Robert, William and James. Hope this is helpful. Laura
