Martin/Barstow Family Bible on Ebay, exp. Feb. 5

Wonderful Old English Family Holy Bible Early 1800's.

Inside the front cover, To The Most High and Mighty Prince James. by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender or the faith Etc.
The Bible has a loose front and rear cover, but the pages are good considering age..27 x 22 x 6.5 cms

The hand written entries in the rear of this book are truly wonderful (albeit brief) records of two generations of one family. The Original owner of this book (William Martin) completed one page (of 2) until his death in 1850, he and his wife, (Ann Martin) had 4 children between 1808 and 1817 (the first 2 named after themselves) .
below are the entries as written, read on and observe time lines of the family as they opened and closed all those many years ago.



Anne Martin, Daughter of Wm. and Ann Martin Was born June 23rd 1808. – was Baptized June 27th in the year 1808 - at Aldham, Essex.



William Martin, Son of Wm. and Ann Martin Was Born July 19th 1810 Was Baptized July 24th in the year 1810 at Aldham, Essex.



This Book Was the Gift of the Revd. J Barstow Which at my Death I bequeath to my Daughter – Ann Martin.



Mary Anne Martin, Daughter of Wm. and Ann Martin Was Born March 19th 1812 Was Christened May 19 at Aldham Essex.



Robert Martin, Son of Wm. and Ann Martin was Born July 1st 1817 Christened August 1819 at Earls Colne Essex.

William Martin departed this life December 18th 1833, aged 23 years, 5 months – Buried December 24th at Saint Paul’s Birmingham.

Ann Martin, mother of the above, died at Holly Hall near Durley, 1st January 1842 and was buried at St. Thomas’s Durley, aged … years.



William Martin, father of the above, died …. June 1850 aged… years and was also buried in St. Thomas’s Churchyard.



Mary Anne, daughter of the above and wife of Thos. Pits Stokes- the younger, of Durley, died either on her journey to Australia or on arriving at Australia.



Ann, sister to the above, married 19th Nov. 1850 to her cousin Henry Robt. English at St James Ive Hill, Durley. Died at Brierley Hill 21st Jany. 1859 aged 50 years and was interred in family grave St. Thomas’s Churchyard Durley 27th January 1859.



Robt. Martin, brother to the above, died January 13th 1861 and was interred in family Vlt. In St.Thos. Churchyard, Durley Jan. 18th 1861.
