I am interested in this Barry line.I have lost a relative, James SIMERAL, SIMRIL, SOMERVILLE who supposedly married Violet BARRY born 1740.
This James SIMERAL is mentioned in his step-fathers Will (1760) in Rowan Co. NC. Andrew BARRY proved a deed in Rowan Co. N.C. (1756) from George DAVIDSON & Margaret DAVIDSON his wife to William REESE, 320 Acres, April Court 1756.
James had a sister Rhoda SIMERAL who married Humphrey Cunningham in Pa. and they moved to NC when her mother and stepfather moved, probably. George DAVIDSON & Margaret were the parents of Gen. William Lee Davidson a Revolutionary soldier who was killed at Cowan's Ford.
The family tradition is that Margaret (WARE) and first husband James Somerville and children were migrating from Ireland and all passengers were put off the ship by the Captain and was told that he would return which he did not.All but 50 passengers perished, one being Margaret (Ware) SOMERVILLE who was pregnant with James.Rhoda the dau. had stayed behind in Ireland and later came to America.
I have hearsay that he married a Barry.I found in 1850 York Co. S.C., a James SIMRIL b. 1808 and a Violet b. 1807, I think they are too young to be James, but could be his son. Also listed in 1850 is a James SIMRIL b. 1776 and a Hugh H. SIMRIL b. 1805.But I really think my James SIMRIL would have to be born abt. 1730's.Thank you, appreciate any information and leads.
