Thanks to Mr. Connors, we now understand better how to face genealogical barriers in Ireland. So far I have not read any good, reliable accounts of the various county histories, such as the period in Kerry (Tralee) when political murders occurred, the body of one Maurice Barry having been deposited on the steps of a local castle. (What castle?)
The story about the murder and facts re the exact location of our Garrett Barry's birthplace (1838) in Kerry have been relayed orally in the family. Garrett's granddaughter Annie Berry, who died in 1956 in Burnley, taught her granddaughter (who now lives in Halifax) the following rhyme, never to be forgotten:
"Garrett Barry from Tralee,
Ballyhag, and Ray can Dee,
From the parish of Odohnee,
County Kerry."
Probably Ballyhaigh, Rathkenny, and Aberdortnee are closer to the correct spellings.
Do you think this description should help me locate Garrett's origin? Is one of them the Barony ? Kathleen
