JAMES EDWARD "Jim" BARRY passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 20th in Austin, Texas while doing one of his favorite things - attending his 21st consecutive group trip with close friends to a college football game. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 27, 1940. He attended University of California and graduated from California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California. He served in the United States Army as a Nike Missile Specialist in Germany from 1960 - 1962. He was transferred to Houston with Shell Oil Company and was later a manager with Superior Oil Company. He was also the Physical Plant Director at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Most recently he taught Business Management classes and was a consultant with PacoTech. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Community. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He participated in many activities with his daughter and gave unselfishly of his time behind-the-scenes. He was a member of Indian Princess with his daughter and several of her dear friends. He built props for the drill team and never missed seeing his daughter dance at pep rallies and halftime. He was a husband, father, and friend who never hesitated to give of himself, his time, and his talents to make others happy. In support of his daughter's passion for serving individuals with muscular dystrophy, he volunteered his time at MDA Summer Camp send-offs and Telethon Be-A-Star parties. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughter Colleen both of Houston, Texas, mother Joanne S. Barry, and sister Joanne B. Huff both of Gilroy, California, brother Thomas S. Barry of Huntington Beach, California and many nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Thursday at Klein Funeral Home Champion Forest. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Klein Memorial Park FM 2920. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 5615 Kirby Drive, Suite 500, Houston, Texas 77005.
