(DU) BARRY-Palestine TX, from FRANCE
Greetings Everyone,
My ancestors were Emil Leon (b.1832) & Coralie (DU)BARRY (b.1842), who emigrated from France with their respective families, perhaps from the Alsace Region, during the 1840s. They married c1856 and all eight of their children were born in Palestine, Anderson County TX (range 1857-1873), where my gr-grandparents were also married (H.Eugenie BARRY & Peter FORTASSAIN, 01 Sept 1879), the latter FORTASSAIN also emigrated from France with his brother Gabriel at about the time of Bismark's invasion to avoid conscription (c1868-72). Their's however was a region in Southern France near the Holy site of Lourdes, a town known as Trie-sur-Baise, on a tributary of the Garonne River that leads directly to the port city of Bordeaux.
From c1885 the BARRY-FORTASSAIN couple settled in Wharton TX, Houston, San Antonio, and brother Gabriel FORTASSAIN in New Orleans. The elder (DU)BARRY matriarch, Coralie, would also eventually go to San Antonio.
I have noted that most of the messages on the list relate to emigrants of Anglo-Irish origins. Mine are completely FRENCH and in all cases emigrated from France to Texas or to Texas via New Orleans. If anyone has any information on this particular BARRY family or (as well) this particular FORTASSAIN family, please contact me.
Best regards to all concerned,
D.M.BAKER
