I cannot find John W. Barrows, Sr.

However, I find many with the name of John Barrows who are possible progenitors but whose progeny are not listed. (New England naming practices frequently involved naming the first-born son for the father.) For example, at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/a/l/Thomas-R=Calkins/GENE5-0012.html , I see John Barrows, born 30 August 1767, the son of Isaac Barrows and Rebecca Turner. Isaac was born 30 December 1742 in Mansfield, Tolland County, Connecticut, and died 29 December 1833. His line is Jabez <Robert <Robert <John Barrowe (1609, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk County, England-1692, Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts). In my experience, most men currently in the US with the names of Barrows or Barrus are descendants of this John Barrowe. By examining the grandfather's will or letters of administration (as appropriate) held in the surrogates' court in the county of the grandfather's death, many, if not all, of the children and grandchildren of that man can be determined definitively.
