Hello Terry!
The Barron family is pretty complicated. I've done their genealogy back to the 17th century. However, I am missing the generation of William Eustace Barron and Joseph 'Pepe' Barron's parents; although, I have some of their uncles and aunts.
The Barrons of Barron Forbes were most certainly the cousins of two brothers, William Eustace Barron (1822 - 1871) and Joseph 'Pepe' Barron (1830 - 1902). Robert Walkingshaw was Scottish and ran a silver mine for Barron Forbes near Tepic. He and Joseph 'Pepe' Barron moved to California in 1847 and worked at New Almaden Mines. Joseph 'Pepe' Barron married Robert Walkinshaw's daughter, Roberta (1844 - 1918), in 1863. William Eustace Barron was the commercial agent for New Almaden Mines.
Robert Walkinshaw sold his interest in New Almaden and returned to Scotland where he died in 1859. William Eustace Barron died in 1871. He lived at 606 Stockton Street in San Francisco and owned Thurlow Lodge in Menlo Park.
Joseph 'Pepe' Barron and Roberta Walkinshaw probably left California in 1871 or 1872. One of their sons, Joseph 'Pepito' Barron, was born in Pau, France in June 1872. Their residence is listed as San Francisco on his birth certificate. Pepito died in the house where I live in 1947. Joseph 'Pepe' Barron died in Pau in 1902 and Roberta Walkinshaw died here in 1918. Neither were buried here.
I am speculating that Joseph 'Pepe' Barron and Roberta Walkinshaw are buried at Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris and that they may have had a residence there. I also believe they were close to Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie. There was a cousin of the Barrons in Mexico who named their daughter Carlota after the wife of Maximilan as those families were close. Joseph 'Pepe' and Roberta Barron named one of their daughters Marie Carlota (1865 - 1844), who became the Baroness de Longueuil. Her son married a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II's mother.
Robert Walkinshaw owned Rancho Posolmi, a 1,695 acre property. Moffett Field is located on that property, but I don't have any information about Mayfield. It may have been on the same property. I would be very interested in any information you have on either.
In exchange, I have quite a bit more information about the business of the Barrons in California. If you would like to exchange information via e-mail, rather than a forum, please let me know. I have photos of Joseph 'Pepe' Barron and Roberta Walkinshaw. You can get a link to my e-mail by visiting VillaHutton.com
