John BARRON and Janet Cunningham (Glasgow, Scotland) or advice on tracing emigra
I was wondering if anyone has a John and Janet BARRON in their trees?
John's parents were Alexander BARRON (b.11/4/1817; d. 23/2/1879)and Isabella FLEMING (b c.1820; d. 20/7/1893). They had 4 children ...
1. Jane Calder (b. c.1844; d. 8/9/1929) m. William HUME
2. Isabella (b 1850/1851; d. 1/4/1861)
3. John (b. 1/8/1852)
4. Janet (b. 1854)
Jane Calder BARRON is my GGGrandmother.
John BARRON married Janet CUNNINGHAM on 10/3/1876 at Bethany Hall, Bernard Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow (Scotland)
They had 6 children that I know of
1. Mary (b. c.1877)
2. Alexander (b. c.1879)
3. Thomas (b. c.1881)
4. Janet (born and died on 14/5/1882)
5. Janet (b. 16/6/1883)
6. Marion (or Merion) Cunningham (b. 23/9/1890; d. 10/7/1891)
The 1881 census shows Janet, John and their (then) 3 children living at Westfield Place, Rutherglen (county - Lanark). The subsequent childrens' births and deaths are also registered at this address.
However, there is no entry for any of them in the 1891 or 1901 censuses. I have searched on death certificates and nothing has come up either.
I am therefore wondering if the family emigrated at some point between Marion's death in July 1891 and the 1891 census taking.
If anyone has any of these names on their tree I'd be really grateful for any information as this is a real puzzle!
Alternatively, any hints and tips on how to go about tracing emigrations from Scotland (when you don't know where they emigrated to) would be great as this is the first I've come across.
Many thanks,
Barbara
PS - Janet CUNNINGHAM'S parents were Thomas CUNNINGHAM and Mary KIDDIE.
