New article on Samuel & John Barron in 1790s Greene & Hancock Cos., GA
WHICH SAMUEL BARRON WAS REALLY THE SON OF WILLIAM AND PRUDENCE (DAVIS) BARRON??
HOW MANY MEN NAMED JOHN BARRON AND SAMUEL BARRON LIVED IN HANCOCK COUNTY, GA, IN THE 1790s -- AND WHO WERE THEY??
DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE WAS A *SECOND* LETTER FROM JOHN D. GARRARD TO J.D. BARRON IN 1892, PROVIDING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON WILLIAM AND PRUDENCE BARRON'S DESCENDANTS??
These and other questions are discussed in a new article posted on my website:

You will find the article, identified as "Who were the 2 Samuel & John Barrons in early GA?" under the section called 'Related Files.'
Be aware that the sections on the two Samuel Barrons living in Hancock County, GA, are controversial!They challenge the long-held tradition that the Samuel Barron (m. Joanna Braswell) who later moved to Jones County, GA, was the son of William and Prudence Davis Barron.This view seems to have begun with John D. Garrard's August 1892 letter in which he proposed, without conclusive evidence, that Samuel Barron of Jones County must have been this couple’s son.Researchers have accepted this conclusion ever since.New data indicates that Garrard was likely wrong!Documentation is provided, including a transcription of a *SECOND* letter written by Garrard to J. D. Barron in September 1892.
Sections of the article should be especially helpful to
1) descendants of William and Prudence (Davis) Barron of Wilkes County, GA;
2) descendants of the Samuel Barron (m. Joanna Braswell) who moved to Jones County, GA;
3) descendants of the Samuel Barron (m. Jane Miller) whose children moved to Pike County, MS about 1820; and
4) descendants of the John Barron, who resided in Greene, Hancock, Jackson and Jasper Counties, GA.His apparent descendants later lived in Carroll County, GA.
Thanks to several fine Barron researchers (credited in the article) whose correspondence in Spring 2002 led to the writing of this article.The contributions of the second Garrard letter and the Georgia tax digests for Greene, Hancock, and Jones Counties were invaluable.
If you have any comments, input or critiques of this article, please let me hear from you.I am making this information available to Barron researchers in hopes that together we can further Barron research in northern Georgia.I am anxious to update the article with any new information that you all can provide.
