I can't tell you about Sarah Barrington, but I can clear up the William the Conqueror idea. There is an estate in Essex called Barrington Hall. At the time of the Norman conquest, the Saxon owner either took the side of William the Conqueror and retained the property, or else a Norman ally took over the estate and assumed the name of Barrington. At least eighteen generations of Barringtons are associated with this site. Captain Francis Barrington (from Barrington Hall) went to Ireland with Cromwell's army and as a conquering Protestant veteran recived confiscated Irish land. While most such veterans became absentee landlords, Francis settled in Ireland.
