Carla, I am not sure what I know.
These are the pieces of information that I have gathered:
James W and Dee Shockley are on the 1930 census in San Angelo, Texas, along with her 100-year-old mother, Caroline Smith and a Barrington son. This would make it appear that she married Mr. Shockley after Thomas Whitfield Barrington died.
On her 1958 Texas death record she is listed as Jane J Shockleywhich again supports that Mr Shockley was her last husband.
But there is William Frank Shockley who died in 1955.His Texas death record states he was born April 9, 1888.The 1900 census shows Thomas and Ida Barrington, married 14 years, with son William F Barrington born Apr 1887. Are William F Barrington and William Frank Shockley one and the same?Did she have a son by Mr Shockley and then marry Mr Barrington? And, later, marry or remarry, Mr Shockley? And I've looked in vain for several years for another Thomas W Barrington who married Amanda Pate in July 1887 in Williamson County, Texas. If, in fact, the 1900 census is incorrect (both for length of current marriage and for William F's actual surname), Thomas and Jane/Dee/Ida could have married closer to 1890 leaving enough time for him to have briefly married Amanda.
It's really a puzzle that will probably keep us all challenged for several more years.
Sharon
