This is a confusing line of the Barrington family (in my opinion). Much of the descendant information I have is from Roy Barrington and his posts to the Barrington Family Genealogy Forum.

My suggestion is that you do some research in primary records and post your results to the forum. Track back through census records, birth, death and marriage records if available, and social security number applications if appropriate - beginning with your husband's closest ancestors.

What I have found in my research doesn't seem to fit with what has been posted and I'd love to see some clarification of this line.

This is what I have (which should be verified as it certainly could contain errors):

Thomas Whitfield BARRINGTON was the younger brother of James Peyton BARRINGTON, my husband's ancestor. I have found Thomas on the 1870 Georgetown, Williamson County, TX census with probably his first wife Permelia and two children - 7 year old James and 1 year old John. Since Thomas was only 21 in 1870, it seems likely that James was Permelia's son by a previous marriage. The family is living next to a HUGGINS family. The wife of Dan HUGGINS is listed as "Larvicy" - the theory is that this is Lavise Lunsford Barrington in a second marriage. Martha and "Henry" are living in the Huggins household and are of appropriate age to be the like-named children of Lavise and Marshall BARRINGTON.

The next record that I have is a marriage record from Williamson County, Texas issued 5 Jul 1887 with the groom listed as Thomas W. BARRINGTON and the bride as Amanda J. PATE.

I have not found Thomas and his family on the 1880 census even though I have gone through the Soundex at the Texas State Library and the 1880 census CDs and the new LDS online listing.

He does turn up again in 1900 in Dallas, TX. His wife is listed as Ida born in Aug. 1864. Children are William F born 4/1887, Joseph G born 7/1891, Peyton A born 1/1893, Marshall M born 1/1896 and Edward born 1/1899.

So I am left with several questions:
NOTE: It is unlikely that the same Thomas married Amanda in July 1887 and fathered a child by Ida in April 1887 and another one in 1891.
1. So, were there two Thomas W. BARRINGTONs - one married to Permelia/Amanda and one to Permelia/Ida "Jensie"?
2. If there were two, which was the son of Marshall BARRINGTON? And who was the "other one"?
3. What is the connection between another BARRINGTON/PATE marriage in Williamson County 6 weeks earlier on May 31, 1887? This is the marriage of my husband's ancestors Joseph Francis PATE (who had a sister Amanda J. born in 1858) and Mattie BARRINGTON (daughter of Thomas W. BARRINGTON's brother, James Peyton BARRINGTON).
4. Where was Thomas in 1880 - was he just missed by the census taker or is he indexed incorrectly? If there were two Thomas BARRINGTONs, it seems unlikely that both were missed or mis-indexed. Had one died?

So, you can see I have more questions than answers - sorry I can't be of more help.
