Joan, In TN, there is a James BARRINGTON
in the 1820 Census for Rutherford Co., TN-I haven't looked at it in a few years, so I can't remember the family and age grouping of the members. In the 1830 Haywood Co., TN Census is the Washington and Martha BARRINGTON, but they're not even in the same household. Washington BARRINGTON is on page 432 and Martha is on page 436 of the census. Very likely related, but in what manner? I believe if I remember correctly, they're both older and living alone?? I'm told this Washington is part of the Washington Wade BARRINGTON line found in LA. It's been a few years since I looked at those. Have you been able to track our John back further than MS?
There was a John BARRINGTON in the 1840 Census of Sumpter Co., AL and a census later (1850), his widow, Rosella BARRINGTON in her 70's listed with a dau? Elizabeth (age 33)in the household (town of Gamerville) Rosella is in her 70's which could certainly make her the mother of John born in the 1820's. I think the census states they were from NC and a page further is a widowed Frances BARRINGTON and her 2 children, who I think is a sister-in-law to John. Frances and her children go to MS near the BOUNDS and OVERSTREETS and are found with them in TX after the Civil War where Frances' 2 children marry OVERSTREET's. Frances also remarries, but I don't remember her new married name at the moment. Juanita
