George, Christian, William Barringer of Maryland
I was searching for info on this family and saw that several have been trying to put it together. Here's what I can add.
I'm tracing the Bowman family. My Bowmans and some of the Barringers were neighbors in Washington Co., MD.
My ancestor, Jacob Bowman, was born in 1792 in Maryland. It appears that he was the son of Goodhart Bowman of Washington Co., MD.Goodhart moved from Washington Co., MD to Hardy Co., VA in 1799... then to Mason Co., VA by 1810 and to Meigs Co., OH around 1818.Bowmans and Barringers appear to have traveled the same path.
Christian Barringer (actually spelled Behringer by some of the actual signatures in Maryland records) married Catharine _______ probably in the 1770s or 1780s.He died in May 1790 in Washington Co., MD.His will names his widow, but just mentions "children."
Land records do, however, name their children as George, William, Christian, Catharine and Susanna.Christian Jr. was listed as "Daniel" in one record.Susanna is also named as the wife of Joseph Gough.
After their father's death, Catharine and her children remained on their land in Washington Co., MD until the late 1790s.They apparently moved to Hardy Co., VA.
Another Barringer family lived in Washington Co., MD at the same time.Adam Barringer (b. c1763 PA) married Catherine Stroever in 1784 in Frederick Co., MD and had at least seven children:Rosanna 1785, Daniel 1788, John 1790, Keziah 1798, Polly, Catherine and Jacob. He was probably a brother to Christian. He lived in Washington Co., MD until 1794, then moved his family to Montgomery Co., VA, where he died in 1835.
I'm not sure if this Barringer line actually will become part of my Bowman line, but I've being tracing it on a hunch.
Anyone have other info on any of these families?
