Sorry, Marisa, as far as I know, the 12th-century Barriers didn't write their family documents in English either.

These friendly people from this French genealogy site and their 800 members have lots of serious and rich information about the Barrier ancestry in France, and their English is excellent.

There will be more and more references to French documents in the Barrier genforum. That's an opportunity to refresh your French. (I'd be happy to help.)
