I should have said that the *Old Huntsville Land Office* records I cited were from "receipts". Apparently they indicate purchases, but not necessarily on the receipt dates (or at least that's my interpretation).

FWIW, the 1840 Census record for Sarah "Barirer" in Jackson co was said to be on p. 60. I'll probably check to see if our library has film covering that and the alleged 1830 Census record for Abraham. Did the Mississippi Barrier genealogy happen to indicate what county he was found in?
Can I assume Jackson?
