Hi David Thanks for answering. Hmmm..the first date and name I have on the land records is Chas N Barrier purchase in May 1, 1831. Followed by Martin Barrier on June 1, 1831. Are you looking at deed abstract books?? For census...I have 1830 William "Barrer" Perry Co, Al page 16 1830 a suspicious looking "Mordican Borer" page 142 Jackson co, Ala 1840 William Barrier Jackson Co, Al 1840 Josan Barrier Mobile Co, Al 1850 Mariah "Berrer" 40 yrs b Ky page 77 Jackson Co, Al Francis Berrer 18 m farmer b Al Thomas 16 m farmer b Al John 12 m b Al Nancy 10 f b Al (This may be Mariah Copenhaven Barrier m to William Barrier) 1850 Martin Barrier Orleans Co, LA page 339 1850 Henry S. Barrier Lowndes, Mississippi 1850 Chas N Barrier Titus Co, Tx pg 105 1850 Samuel Barrier Gonzales Co, Tx page 331 1850 M. T. Barrier Titus Co, Tx page 105 1850 John M Barrier Jackson Co, Al pg 18 I can't seem to locate a Sarah Barrier on the census and I have even tried the soundex. In Claude Kirkland's book pub 1994 (primarily on his Mississippi Barriers) he says Abraham Barrier was on the 1830 census in Ala. I don't see that either. I am pulling this information up on Ancestry so could be wrong. I haven't looked at the actual 1830 census which can be ordered from your local library....if you are up for the challenge. Claude also says that William and Mariah Copenhaven removed to Tx where he pursued a career in medicine. That doesn't appear to be the case unless Mariah moved back to Al by 1850 (again presuming this is the Mariah married to William found in Jackson co, Al census) bye Stephanie PS You might want to ck this board for a posting I did on Abraham titled "Whereabouts of Abraham Barrier". I give dates and sources. PSS Also, just recently found an early record of 1520 on geneanet for Jacques de Berruyer in France so "Barriere" may not be an early spelling for this family.
