Stephanie,

Thanks for the reply and information. I live on the other side of the State from Jackson co, but our local library does have some materials from that area. In particular:

25 Nov 1830 -- John Barrier a purchaser of land in Jackson co, sec 31, twp 4, range 5E

11 Jan 1831 -- Charles N. Barrier a purchaser of land in Jackson co, sec 8, twp 2, range 7E

17 Dec 1831 -- Charles Neal Barrier a purchaser of land in Jackson co, sec 12, twp 2, range 7E

13 Dec 1833 -- William Barrier a purchaser of land in Jackson co, sec 15, twp 2, range 7E

11 Jan 1839 -- William Mullins Barrier a purchaser of land in Jackson co, sec 2, twp 2, range 7E

(the above from Barefield, M.D. *Old Huntsville Land Office Records & Military Warrants*, 1985)

Also:

8 Sept 1834 -- Charles N. Barrier & wife Elizabeth, of Jackson co, to Jason Cargile (added to this record: "J.P. note: Chas. b. Oct 27, 1801 d. Mar. 21, 1856 son of Martin Barrier d. Sept. 2, 1837. Chas. N. m. 1. Hester _____ 2. Sarah Eliz Boaz") (from *Alabama Records*, v. 19, p. 19, 1981)

I could find no indication of who "J.P." was, but clearly this was an editor's entry to convey additional information on Charles.

Thus it appears that some of Martin's children, and perhaps Martin himself, entered Jackson co in late 1830 to 1833. One Sarah "Barirer" appeared in the Jackson co census of 1840; I have only an index entry and not her age but wonder if she might have been Martin's widow Sarah (Neal) Barrier.

If Abraham (Martin's father) was in Jackson co as well, it would likely have been as a member of Martin's household. Do we know where Martin was at the time of the 1830 census, and did his household contain an older male? And has anyone looked at Sarah's 1840 census record to determine the same?
