George Barrett patented the land on Horse Branch in Bedford
County in 1794.In 1784 he was on the Botetourt County tax
list.In 1799 "Barrett" is mentioned as an adjoiner in
Franklin County on a Preston deed, and George Barrett pur-
chased his Franklin County land from Jesse Preston just before his death. His Horse Branch land was north of the Roanoke River, the Franklin County land south of it. George isn't on the earlier Bedford County tax lists. Botetourt came out of Augusta; early on it adjoined Bedford, but Bed-
ford came from Lunenburg.
I got my version of George's will from Franklin County Will
Book 1.Nancy Thornhill is not mentioned in the will book,
but John Barrett is.Furthermore, John Barrett signed the
deed of sale of George Barrett's Franklin County land when
his mother Sarah sold it in 1807.I know which transcriptio
you are working from; it's wrong.
