Deborah, the other msg didn't get finished before somehow it went in.
as I was saying,I don't have any concrete proof that Ruth was married to Miles b. 1795, except that the other males, sons of Ward Barrett b. 1765 and wife Charity Mears, all their wives are known, and Ruthy was not one of them.Miles b. 1795 shows up in Warren Co., TN in 1820 with Ward and Haman Barrett, as the other Barrett HOH that year.Ward's other sons are still in his household, except son Isom who stayed in Buncombe Co., NC.
in 1830 Miles b. 1795 and Haman b. 1796 along with David, John, Ward Jr., and Thomas are in separate households.for 1840, Miles b. 1795 has died and Ruthy is HOH living in DeKalb Co., TN next door to James Barrett and family.
let me back up.Ward Barrett is not found on the 1800 Morgan, Buncombe Co., NC census listed as Ward, in my opinion the James Barrett found listed near William Barrett on image #4 and John on image #6.
for 1810 Buncombe Co., NC census there is John, William (who is possibly John's son), Isom (probably Ward's eldest son), Miles b. 1760 and then Ward Barrett.
after 1810 Ward moves to Warren Co., TN with HOH, sons, Haman and Miles b. 1794.John stays in NC, along with Isom and William, Miles b. 1760 goes to Greene Co., TN.
the only thing is, Miles b.1795 could possibly be a son of Miles b. 1760.he has the same age sons as Ward Sr. does in 1810.
it is believed that John was the brother of, and became the guardian of, Ward, Thomas and Sylvia on 25 March 1784. and it is also thought that John was the brother of Miles as he paid the tithe for him in 1748 in Lunenberg Co., VA (actual spelling was John Beard). also, John Barrett and his wife Elizabeth rc'd part of Francis Barrett's land after his death and Francis' children rc'd the other half.
there were other Barrett men also thought to be somehow related, but these are the only ones concerned herein.
now, as to the marriage between James Barrett's grandson Joseph and Ruthy Barrett's granddaughter.
James Barrett's son, Wells Barrett, had a son named Joseph Barrett b. 1862 who married on 26 Dec 1884 Mary Barrett b. 1860 and she was the daughter of William and Paralee Barrett, who was the son of Ruthy and Miles Barrett.
I found a "booklet" in the Warren Co. Library about the family of William and Paralee Barrett, and it has a picture of Mary and Joe Barrett and three of their children.
Mary and Joe had 5 children:Etta, Helen, Edgar, Acai and Jo Anna.Joe died from complications after having the measles before Jo Anna was born.he is buried in Overall Cemetery in DeKalb Co., TN.after Joe's death, Mary's brother John Barrett came to live with the family and helped Mary raise her children. Joe's marker reads:
J.W. Barrett b. 7 Sept 1862 d. 16 Feb 1897; 34 yrs, 5 mos., 9 days.
Mary lived until March 1922 then she was buried beside her husband and near her parents.
the booklet also says that William Barrett, called "Grandpa Billy" in the passage, visited an uncle called Uncle Pleasant Pistole, and his wife Arena, and the writer supposes that Arena must have been Ruthy Barrett's sister.this is highly possible, as William's brother John (of whom I descend) named his daughter Aurena, and she went by the name "Rena".I have not been able to find any reference to this Pleasant Pistole and a wife Arena as yet.
there are sons of Miles b. 1795 that I have not been able to pin down, but there are notations for a Miles Barrett who was in the Civil War as a private in the 8th TN Infantry.now this could not be Miles b. 1795 as he died before 1840, so he may be his son that is noted on the 1820 & 1830 census.
my only stumbling block is that Miles b. 1795 who is most likely the husband of Ruthy Barrett MAY be the son of Miles b. 1760 and not Ward Barrett b. 1763, but in that case he would be Ward's nephew!
if all this supposition is correct, then James Barrett and Ruthy Barrett most likely were not related to each other, even though they were living near each other in 1840 and 1850.but then, I do have other instances where members of my family married cousins (close cousins), so that cannot be totally ruled out, either.
