Hi Fransisco!I am glad you wrote back. You say that the history has been handed down orally. Is there anything written? Are you a descendant of the Barreras?I looked for Ispica, Italia, and could not find it.Is it a small town? What city is it close to? Is it close to Sicily?
So it seems that the Barreras were sailors and fishermen in Italy. That would be natural, since you are so close to the sea. However, in this country they were not....my grandfather Pedro Barrera was a businessman, my father Aurelio Barrera was an entrepeneur ...I am a teacher...and my otherbrothers and sisters have chosen different professions. No fishing here! : )
Maybe your job in the bank is more in the line of professions that all the Barreras would have had if they had not been so close to the sea or under pressure from the Frenchmen.
So were the Barreras originally from the state of Aragon in Spain?or from Italy?
I await your reply anxiously.
Sincerely,
Maria Anna Barrera Esparza
