Obit: Astrid Victoria (Halen) Barr b.1914 Swanson district, SK
Astrid Victoria Barr (nee Halen) passed away peacefully on Wed. Nov. 16, 2005 in the Outlook Hospital. Astrid was born on her family's homestead near Swanson, SK on Oct. 6, 1914. She was the eldest of seven children born to Albert and Anna Halen. Mom took all her schooling in Swanson and graduated from grade twelve with honours at the age of 16. The Halen family moved to Milden and that is where she met Ken. They were married in Milden United Church on October 22, 1936. Mom was involved in many community ventures, Royal Purple Lodge and Milden UCW. Astrid was predeceased by: an infant sister, Dorothy; her parents and parents-in-law, Bob and Elizabeth Barr; her brothers, John and Roy; sister, Ann Froh; brothers-in-law, Sebie Froh, Tom Barr, Dougie Barr and Gordon Fearnside; sisters-in-law, Estelle Barr and Cheryl Halen. Left to cherish her memory are: her loving husband of 69 years, Robert Newton "Ken " Barr; son, Bob (Gail); daughters, Barbara (Art) Richter, Faye (Bob) Piercy and Betty Lou (Paul) Brunelle; nine grandchildren, 17 greatgrandchildren, three great-greatgrandchildren; sisters, Vi (John) Hanson, Ruth Fearnside; sisters-in-law, Eunice Halen and Gwen Barr; plus many nieces and nephews, and Sterling WcWatters who was like a son. Our sincere appreciation and thanks go to Marlene Hendricks and Teresa Soniega for the loving care they have given our mom. A celebration of Astrid's life will be held at the Milden United Church on Saturday November 19, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, may be given to Outlook Hospital Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clements' Rosetown Funeral Home.
