Barr records on-line, Cumberland Co., PA 1730 to 1905
Barr is one of 168 surnames that appear in "Index of Heads of Families to the Fourth Generation", found in the back, "History of the McKinney-Brady-Quigley Families" by Belle McKinney Hays Swope.
These three families were among the first Scotch-Irish settlers of the Cumberland valley of Pennsylvania during the mid-1700's.Most were members of the early Presbyterian churches founded at Big Spring, Middle Spring, and Rocky Spring.
Ms. Swope's book was published in 1905 in Chambersburg, PA. It provides an extremely detailed genealogy of each generation the original three families from the time they arrived through 1905. She also includes some very interesting biographies on some of the earlier ancestors.
