I believe that this man Pierre (Pedro) Baron, 1830, France, was my great great grandfather, as he has the right names and the right country of birth, as well as a time of birth that fits his lifetime appropriately. I don't know whether he landed in San Francisco from France, but it is very likely. I do know he came from France, and that he went by Pierre (initially) and Pedro later when he settled in the Santa Barbara area. He owned a racho near, or next to, the one owned by the Ortegas (of Jose Francisco de Ortega, who received the first Spanish land grant in California). Pierre/Pedro married Altagracia Leyva. I'm not sure how many children they had, but I know there was a son was named Gerald, or Gerard --("Gerry" had twin daughters, plus a daughter named Marie who I have had one telephone conversation with) --and Pedro also had a daughter, Josephina (my great grandmother) who married Hermohenes Ortega (she was his second wife) of the noted Santa Barbara Ortega family and she had a daughter with him (my grandmother, Juanita Josephina, and a son named Reginald, plus another child or two who died.)

If you have any further information about the Baron family, I would be most grateful if you were to share it with me. (I am an adoptee who is hungry for family background!) If you have any questions, I would be pleased to share any information I have.

Sincerely,
Patti B. Collins
