As far as I know there is two kinds of Barons in Berlin, those of jewish and those of french origin. Both are coming from Poland, but they pronounce their names differently: the jewish ones accentuate on the first, the french ones on the second syllable.
I am a descendant of the french Barons, them descendants from hugenot families of the same name who had to emigrate from France in the late 17th century because of religious persecution. They first settled in the eastern part of German Empire, now Poland, and later moved back westwards to Berlin. That is at least what I could find out asking family memebers...
I unfortunately haven't met anyone of the jewish line yet, but I will ask my grandfather, maybe he knows more about it.
