Hi Maureen,
Thank you so much for this info. I spent much of the holiday in SC graveyards completing some research on my husband's family, so I didn't have time to work on my Barneycastle family. I will definitely use this info to visit these sites. My grandmother was a Butner, so her family also has close ties to Bethabara and Salem. Her father was a tilesetter. Much of what I'm learning about the Barneycastles has helped with her history, as well.
I would love to have a copy of the photo you have of Yerby, if possible. I can receive most photo formats, if it's electronic or I would be glad to pay for a print and shipping, if this would suit you better.
I hope to complete the scanning of mom's photos in the next couple of weeks and I'll send you a link for (and download) photos of my great-grandparents, Joel Allen and Anna Elizabeth Barneycastle Allen (they called her Bessie), and Great-great Aunt Nora several of the children.
One of my favorite memories about Grandma Bessie in Walnut Cove was sitting in front of her house when I was about 4 years old, picking the wild roses that covered the hillside. I loved the way her kitchen smelled, as she was always cooking and there was always a new litter of kittens in the barn out back. My mother inherited the mantleclock and I have a painting of a vase of flowers in a gold frame that hung in her dining room.
I hope you had a wonderful holiday and will have a great New Year!
Thanks again!
Karen
