John Barney and Sarah Luther

I am searching for information about Luther Barney, b.1757 in Conn. I have James John Barney b.1718 as his father and a Sarah Luther as mother. I don't see how she can be his mother when she died in 1744. Is there another wife to John Barney that could have been his biological mother?
