Fayette Barney, born about 1834/35 in Ohio or PA, was the son of an Aurel N. Barney and in the 1850 census the family is in Marquette, Michigan In 1858, Fayette Barney married Clara, aka Carrie, Hollister in Marquette, MI. They had a child, Nellie, age 3 months in the `1860 census of Marquette. I've found that Fayette entered the Civil War about 1861 and was mustered out in Ashtabula, Ohio just several years later. (wounded) In 1870, Carrie Barney and Nellie are living in Marquette...but no Fayette is around. Instead, Fayette is out in Buena Vista Co, Iowa in the 1870 census, married to Mary Jane (Landerking) We have not been able to find a marriage record for Fayette and Mary Jane and it's possible that Mary Jane was married before 1860 to someone else and widowed. Mary Jane died (of choking in Will Co, Joliet while visiting relatives) and by 1880, Fayette had married an Anna and was living with her and a child in Minnestoa. Civil War records indicate that his wife /widow, Anna, applied for a pension from Illinois and a voter's list in Chicago in the late 1880s indicates Fayette was there. So, my question. There are a bunch of BARNEY families in Cass Co, MI...one of whom, Winship, apparently went out to Will Co on his way to California, his wife died in Will Co maybe along with a couple kids and he gave up the trip west. I think one of his kids, Aurellius, may have gone out to NW Iowa as well. Do any of these Cass Co, MI Barney families tie into Fayette's father's line? I'm trying to find a reason for Fayette to have been in Huron Co, Ohio in the 1860s after the war....and as such.....was able to meet up with Mary Jane Landerking. (Note...she may have been a widow....possibly of an Andrews). In 1850, Mary Jane's family were in Kent Co, MI, but by mid 1850 her mother had remarried to a Rufus Parks in Huron Co, Ohio. The marriage took place there. Any ideas or help out there? Julie Notify Administrator about this message?
