Hi Jerry I thought I would chime in with my BARNETT/BARNETTE family. They were from Virginia especially Russell County Castlewood. My great grandfather WILLIAM MORGAN BARNETT .1832 his son ELLSWORTH BARNETTE b.1888 my mother IDA MAE BARNETTE. Everywhere I research the e is there and then it's gone. My family wants to use the BARNETTE spelling today.

I figure I will always search BARNETT/BARNETTE and BARNET I found one record with that spelling and of course there is a census record with BARRETT.
