Well, I am in the oposite situation. My father and his 4 siblings were born as "Barnette" and they decided to all drop the "E" in grade school (late 1940's). Now they and thier descendants no longer have the "E". They are from the Louisa Kentucky area (Lawrence Cty, Big Sandy Valley).

I haven't heard of anyone adding the "E" (until your post), but I have heard of poeple droping the silent letters.
