Thank you for your insights as to the possible origins of William Barnett’s parents.I try and stay open-minded in my searches and NJ certainly sounds like an overlooked candidate.
I based my previous Genforum post about William’s date and place of birth on entries in his family bible (printed 1828 with first post-published date entered in 1829) and his US Census records for PA & OH; he first appeared in Northumberland Co on the 1809 tax records. His wife’s DoBand given & surname come from her mother’s widow’s Rev War pension application. and her grave stone. Since that post, I have discovered nothing to answer the question.
Currently, I accept his PA birth; my searches have been among numerous, and some well-documented, Barnett families of Dauphin and Lancaster Co, PA. I have spent hours pouring through their records but can’t find a trace of son William.
My working hypothesis is that his parents were Scots-Irish immigrant or 1st generation and made no civil records because they were to poor to do so.
