I received some information, it was not documented as far as I know, in my search for information on my mother's side of the family.
My mother Grace Lee Cothern Smithers, daughter of Sarah Lou Gibbs and Levi Neal Cothern.
My grandmother, Sarah Lou Gibbs daughter of George W. Gibbs and Mary Elizabeth Brown.
Mary Elizabeth Brown daughter of William Brown and Sarah Cearley.
Sarah Cearley daughter of Larkin Cearley and Mary Barnes.
Mary Barnes b. May 20, 1781 d.Nov 12, 1864 in Union Co., Ivy Log Community, GA - she was the daughter of Solomon Barnes I and Elizabeth Murphee.
Solomon Barnes I b.abt1752 in New Garden, Chester Co., PA d.Sep2, 1804 in Wilkes Co., NC - he was the son of Brinsley Barnes I and Elizabeth Lindley.
I show that Brinsley Barnes I was born abt 1715, I don't know where and there was no mention of who his parents were. The only notation was that he was the great grandson of Thomas Barnes of Donn, Ireland and that he, Thomas, supposedly came to Marlborough, MA in 1656 with two brothers, Francis and William.
Thomas Barnes married Abigail Goodnow in 1663 and had sons named William, John and Thomas Jr.
Based on the information I had, one of Thomas' three sons would have been Brinsley Barnes' grandfather.
I would appreciate any information you might have that will help clear up the confusion.
