I have researched Hiram Barnes's father, Loftin Grant Barnes, because I have a Barnes line that may be related to him. A number of people have the Loftin Grant Barnes line -- his father was Loftin Barnes (no known middle name). You can find postings on this family on this surname bulletin board, as well as at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com's WorldConnect project. Look for different spellings of Loftin -- Loften, Loftan, Lofton. Try Barns as well as Barnes spellings, also. Loftin, Sr., appears to be the son of Adam Barnes and Lucy Davis. One of the best informed descendants of Loftin Grant Barnes is Jerry Barnes, who has posted messages on this web site.
