First of all, do you have any idea what county Charles might have lived in? I do know some of my Barnes relatives scattered through the southern states including Alabama after Brinsley, Sr. died. He was buried in Wilkes County, north of Taylorsville where both of my Barnes' ancestors were living before migrating to Indiana. I am familiar with Brinsley's Will you posted; he died on May 5, 1796. That county now is Alexander which was taken from Wilkes and two other counties. I know that his son Brinsley, Jr. migrated with his family to Estill County, Kentucky, and that he and his wife Lydia Isabella Teague had a son "Edward". She was a sister or close relative to Luranna Teague, who married Jehu Barnes; they were my ancestors. Their son Edward must have been whom Brinsley was referring to in his Will? The county seat of Warren, Tennessee, is McMinnville and it appears this county is no more than 80 north of the Alabama state line. We could try to connect "Phillis" to Charles, but we are not quite in the right area unless they moved around quite a bit. There were many "Charles Barnes" in my Barnes family tree. I am not sure whom he meant by 'trusty friend, James Barnes'; he did have a son James whom I descended from, but he always lived in North Carolina and came to Indiana with his son Jehu and family around 1830.
