Oscar was born, 21 Nov 1840, son of Reuben and Anna Aurora (Spring) Barnes.On 5 Sep 1861, he was mustered into the Union Army, Company A, at Roxborough, PA. Later he was transferred to Company B and, among other places, served in NC and VA.His last battle was in Petersburg, VA, and on 26 Jan 1866 he was mustered out and honorably discharged at Philadelphia.
On 15 Mar 1870, he married Frances Wright, a native of Pennsylvania, daughter of Thomas J. Wright.They had 10 children (one who died in infancy and one at age of 15): Archie, Maud (deceased), Maud E. (Mrs. Weller Fox), Carson H., Anna H. (Mrs. Frank Hughes), George O., Doyle (deceased), Glen A., Donald R., Tracy B.
Their mother, Frances, died in Pennsylvania and later Oscar married Mrs. Anna (Hawkes) Mosher, a native of Cold Spring, New York, daughter of Caleb and Anna (Denning) Hawkes.Her first husband was W.H. Mosher, with whom she had two children: B.W. and A.L. Mosher.
Oscar and Anna Barnes came to Montana in 1910 and proved up on a homestead on the Kootenai River.
Oscar Barnes became a resident of the Montana Soldier's Home at Columbia Falls, MT.
