These Barnes' brothers were SO much for naming their children the very same names for several generations. And then, sometimes these kids married siblings.....
I think I told you wrong; it was Edward Barnes, son of DEAF JOHN, who married Sarah Tyrell. I descend from both Handsome Jim and Deaf John, but not through any of the "Edward's". My maternal grandparents were 4th cousins.
Why don't you E-mail me, as I know of someone that might be able to help you more than I can. She has studied the Barnes lines for several years.
The sons of Brinsley really did scatter into several states, especially after he died. You probably know of the fights that broke out concerning his will. I know some went into Missouri, but most settled in the deep southern states. One of Handsome Jim's grandson's, Michael, eventually took his family to Sonoma Co., California, and he died there in 1843. He stepped on a rusty nail and died of Tetanus ("Lockjaw"). I don't know why he was named "Michael", unusual for the Barnes family.
The only data I have on Edward, son of Handsome Jim, is that he also married a "Tyrell", but maybe someone got this Edward mixed up with his cousin? This Edward, son of Jim, had a son "Isaac", born in Iredell Co., NC, supposedly. He probably had more children; I just don't have their names.
Don't forget that many families had their last child or two while the parents were already in their 40's. Most of my female ancestors had their last child at 43-44 years of age, and many times their husbands were several years older.
Edward, son of Deaf John, died in Barnesville,Reynolds Co., Missouri. I have oftened wondered if that town was named for his particular family. He and Sarah (Terrel/Tyrell) had eleven children, one was named "Terrell Barnes".
I do know that Luranna Teague, who married Jehu Barnes, son of Handsome Jim, had an interesting family. Her dad, Rev. Edward Teague, had been among "The Regulators" before the American Revolution started. He and many others had grievances against the British, and this resulted in "The Battle of Alamance",which the colonists lost. The Teagues, among many others, were afraid after that and took their families and left for a different region. The Teague family settled for several years in the area of what is now Apex, N.C. and lived among an Indian Tribe for protection from the British.
