Barnes Family Bible on eBay (KS, IA, WA & MO
A family Bible is for sale on eBay. I have NO connection to the auction/seller or to the Barnes family; however I think someone on this list MIGHT be interested. I hope I've helped someone. Below is the important information:
ANTIQUE FAMILY BIBLE & SCRAPBOOK
Item number: 6572722423
seller information: hamspapershack
auction ends: 30 Oct 2005
"A presentation page that declares "Presented to MARY A. BARNES by her son LAFAYETTE, August 15, 1883"; and several illustrated pages for documenting Marriages, Births, and Deaths - several of these family occasions are recorded in ink.
THE FAMILY RECORDS that are recorded within the bible are as follows:
MARRIAGES - only one is recorded, but is noted on a special, highly decorated page, as well as on the 'Marriages' page - "L. W. Barnes and Lulu Wallace, at Kansas City, KANSAS, on April 4th, 1888, by Rev. James G. Greel".
BIRTHS - "L. W. Barnes at Ion(?) IOWA, Jan. 29th, 1863"; "Lulu Wallace, at Weston, MISSOURI, April 9th, 1872"; "Vivian Barnes, at Snohomish, WASHINGTON, May 5th, 1889"; and Gladys Valeria Barnes, at Snohomish, Wash, Jan. 18th, 1891".
DEATHS - "Vivian Barnes, at Snohomish, Wash, April 14th, 1891"....
...THE SCRAPBOOK ITEMS (or laid-in items) that I found in the bible are also shown in photos to the left, and include: a large sepia-tone photo of a river flooded well over its banks (the Snohomish, in Washington?); a handwritten note to Gladys from her cousin in Watson, Iowa; photo of girl with book; photograph of a funeral with coffin draped in the American flag and surrounded by flowers and 10 men; a clipping referring to two runaway girls from Snohomish who were recovered while trying to make it to Chicago; 1 receipt from the Bon Marche in Seattle dated 1913 that is folded to contain a small lock of blond hair; two pressed leaves with ink writing on them and a pressed flower; a small vertical photo strip of 4 portraits of a woman; a small vertical photo strip of three portraits of a man; small horizontal photo strip of 2 1/2 shots of two young girls; small single photo of two young girls; small single photo of a woman; a faded photo of a young adult man, sitting, which is torn in two; handwritten lyrics to "The Spanish Rose"; clipping of a newspaper obituary for Dr. J. M. F. Cooper of Waterville, Washington; a red & yellow newspaper clipping advertising a book, "Life of William McKinley, Our Martyred President", and several other scraps - plus, there may be more scattered within that I have not yet come across - all of these items were located at different pages in the bible, and it seems highly likely that the photos are of L. W. and Lulu Barnes, their daughters, other family members, and the like; the lock of hair could be from the young Vivian Barnes, who appears to have died at age 2."
