Fort Worth, Texas: Seek descendants of B.H. Barnes & Theodocia Leatherman
I am seeking descendants of the brother of my great-grandmother, Martha Barnes, named Berry Henderson Barnes and his wife Theodocia Fidelia Leatherman, especially if descendants have any family history or any information at all to share.Berry Henderson Barnes, also known as Henderson Barnes, or by his initials, B. H., was born about 1846 in Cass County, Texas, married 7 Sep 1865 perhaps in Bell Co., and died 25 Oct 1883 in Handley, now part of Ft. Worth. He and "Docie" (or "Delia"?) had 8 children that I know of, all born in Handley, Tarrant Co., TX:(1) John F., born in Aug 1867, married 15 Jan 1903 Louisa Clark; (2) Robert E., born about 1869, perhaps died before 1900; (3) Philip N. "Phil," born about 1872, married but wife's unknown; (4) Emma Ophelia, born Jan 1874, never married; (5) Charles Henry Joseph, born Jul 1877, married 30 Oct 1907, to Hattie Lee Nora Craig; (6) Ida May or Maud, born May 1880, died perhaps in the late 1940s or early 1950s, husband's name not known; (7) Clementinius or Claud, born May 1880, may have died before 1900; and (8) "Ozee," born Nov 1882 -- was she the Ozella Barnes who married C. L. Hughes in Tarrant Co. 30 Dec 1900?The family of B. H. Barnes was enumerated twice in the 1880 census, once in the Village of Handley, p. 42, and once in District 91, p. 76A.Theodocia was in the 1900 Tarrant Co. census and shown as having had 8 children, 6 living. Her son John never had children. When on his deathbed (he died of tuberculosis), Berry Henderson Barnes asked his children to promise that they would never drink liquor.Phil was the only one to break that promise and apparently had a break in relationship with the family after that.He had two daughters (names unknown) who were said to live some other place than Texas.Ophelia was strict like her mother but more likeable, and was a career woman.Maud had a step-son but no children by birth.
The parents of Berry Henderson Barnes were John S. Barnes (born about 1812/13 AL, died about 1853 perhaps in Cass Co., TX) and Martha Cannon (born about 1817 Greenville District, SC, died before 1878 in Fort Worth or Handley).Theodocia Leatherman was the daughter of Rebecca Byas and Daniel Leatherman.
I would love to locate descendants of Henderson Barnes and Theodocia Leatherman and learn more about this family.
