Hi Craig,
My family originates from Brunswick and Dinwiddie County Virginia. We are from the Thomas Barner line which comes from a leg of William Barner.
I have been at this search for almost 30 years now and still find bits and pices that connect.
The Graves are located in the same area. Many Barners throughout the country comes from that area and from Pa. and NY.
Arround 1850, there abouts I believe a large number of farmers left this area due to a depression in farming and went to Arkinsaw, Texas and Mississippi to get rich in cotton. They packed everything including there slaves and left looking for a better go at farming. Many found it, however many of our relatives got lost in the move.
I am looking for three, maybe four gg-grand aunts. they may have went to that area or to Arkinsaw, possible with a Alexander Mark Barner. (they may not have been slaves. Many of the farmers of Virginia freed their slaves in 1808 and they became house workers and farm workers for the same farmer for protection)
If you have additional information regarding your father, please send via e-mail to [email protected], i may be able to help if he decends from this area.
