Hi Susan -- I gather these are the Barnards who settled in Massachusetts you are talking about?

I'm very suspicious of this Suffolk connection. You might be interested in the discussion in this thread, lower on the board:

I have a strong hunch that the Barnards who settled in Massachusetts actually came from Wiltshire.

The info in the IGI connecting those Barnards to the Suffolk Barnards seems to be "submitted", i.e. not based on verified records. It really looks to me like someone found some people with matching names and approximately matching birthdates, and adopted them -- without realizing how many Robert and Thomas Barnards littered the English landscape at the time.

If my hunch is right, I'm almost certainly related to everyone descended from the Massachusetts Barnard settlers, since my Barnards appear to have been established in Mere, Wiltshire, for a very long time (although I've only got my personal Barnards back to a 1781 marriage at present), and my bet is that the Mere-Chilmark area is where those Barnards came from.

I'd be interested in your input -- and input from anyone else connected with the Massachusetts Barnards -- in that discussion.
