Hi Lorraine! I see that the last child born to your couple in England was: Name: Walter J Barnard Year of Registration: 1912 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Mother's Maiden Name: Ware District: Camberwell (1837-1919) County: London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 1682 So either he was their youngest or they emigrated after his birth and had other children in Canada. Unfortunately, the date means they missed the last available Canadian census, 1911, and any children born in Canada were born after 1907, the current cutoff for public access. Are you looking for Christopher's ancestors or descendants? There's one Barnard currently listed in the phone book in Kenora: http://findaperson.canada-411.ca/person 24 in that area code altogether. As for Christopher's ancestry -- I assume you're referring to CORNWALL, England. Or hmm, maybe CAMBERWELL -- where Walter's birth was registered? If Camberwell, I wonder whether this might be his birth: Name: Christopher Walter Barnard Year of Registration: 1885 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Lambeth County: Greater London, London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 491 Do you know FreeBMD? http://www.freebmd.org.uk (click on the red "search" in the lower left; ignore the search boxes at the top, which are an Ancestry ad) I just did a quick search for Barnard married Ware 1890-1915 (before 1911, the surnames are not matched in the index, but FreeBMD will tell you if they appear on the same page) ... and there isn't one. This looks like the 1885 Christopher in the 1901 census: Name: Christopher Barnard Age: 16 Estimated Birth Year: 1885 Relation: Son Father's Name: James R Mother's Name: Mary A Gender: Male Where born: Camberwell, London, England -- but what you're really needing, to find him for sure in the census, is your Christopher's parents' names, and without a marriage certificate to get his father's name from ... hmm. Here is the Camberwell Christopher's marriage: Marriages Sep 1908 BARNARD Christopher Walter Camberwell 1d 1467 ELWOOD Frederick Thomas Camberwell 1d 1467 PEARSON Jane Eliza Camberwell 1d 1467 PULLINGER Ellen Louisa Camberwell 1d 1467 It's before 1911, so we don't know which bride was his. But we can search births after 1911 to see which mother's surname his children had ... and it was Pearson; children Joan, Phyllis and Rebecca, the last one born 1919. So he can't really be yours. Alrighty then. That's not your Christopher. This is. I've found his marriage, and I've found the problem. There's a mistranscription. I checked the original image. Marriages Sep 1909 BARNARD Christopher George Southwark 1d 148 EVANS Grace Eleanor Southwark 1d 148 WINTER Frederick William Southwark 1d 148 -- FreeBMD has a bride missing. ... and actually, it isn't a mistranscription, it's an omission. She isn't transcribed yet. WARE Lily Southwark 1d 148 So after all this, if it's ancestors you're after, that's the info you need to order the marriage certificate: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates And this is undoubtedly your Christopher's birth: Name: Christopher George Barnard Year of Registration: 1884 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Camberwell (1837-1919) County: London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 937 But that likely is him in the 1901 census, as I reproduced above; this is the rest of the household: James R Barnard 48 born in Southwark Mary A Barnard 42 Edwin Barnard 19 Christopher Barnard 16 Arthur J Barnard 12 If you don't have access to the UK censuses, I'd be happy to go back farther for you, if that's what you're after.
