Hi Kathryn,
I have had the most terrible time trying to post a message back to you regarding Thomas Barnard and all that fantastic info. that you so very kindly took the time and trouble to research. I can't thank you enough.
My computer crashed last week and I have been trying to get it fixed since then, and after many phone calls to the help line with no joy, we finally worked out that all the rain we have had was getting into the phone line junction box outside the house, so this morning we went out and fixed up new cable, and now thank heaven I am now up and running.
I must say you really went to town with your research. It took me awhile to absorb all the details.
I never could find a marriage between Thomas and Eliza and I sent off for Maria Jane's birth certificate to find out what Eliza's maiden name was, but just my luck I could not read it as the writing was awful and it looked almost foreign. Looked like Goujl or Gorijh, so I will send off for Henry's birth certificate and see if I have better luck this time.
The Emily Watkins that you found on the 1881 married to Robert Arthur is indeed my Gt.Grandmother Emily Barnard born 1852 in Bermondsey. They went on to have 6 children, one of them, Charles Edward is my Grandfather, and Sidney Barnard Watkins is Heather West's Grandfather, so I think that makes us half cousins. I have at long last found Heather about 2 weeks ago through the Axtell Family History Society (U.K.)
I had been looking for Robert Arthur's parent, William Watkins who married Mary Ann Axtell, so this is why I was on the Axtell site, and I saw Heather's name and contacted David who runs the Axtell site and he gave me Heather's e-mail address. She was very surprised to hear from me and so pleased. I must thank you very much indeed for trying to contact her for me. What a shame your Barnard's do not match up with mine, as you would have made a great research buddy.
