Christopher Barnard and Edna America Stevens

I am trying to research the Barnard side of my family.

My great-grandfather was Christopher W Barnard. Possible year of birth is 1879. Father and mother possibly George W and Ella Barnard. Christopher and Edna moved to Pontiac, Michigan in the late 20's, Christopher leaving a logging mill he operated in Hardin Co. I am unsure if this is in Kentucky or Illinois. Christopher and Edna had 6 children, 4 boys and 2 girls. I only know the names of 3 of the sons:

James Spencer Barnard (my grandfather. born 12 May 1907
Walter Mason Barnard (married Pauline Saffer in Illinois)
Harry Barnard

This family of Barnards was very religious and musical. They had a traveling band/orchestra which featured the three brothers on violin, guitar, and drums.

I have no other information on these Barnards beyond these names and the name of my grandmother, Alvateen Oglesby Barnard, and my grandfather once told me when I asked about family history that his family included horse thieves.

I have tried to email several of the posters on this forum who looked as if they may have information on the above Barnards, but the emails fail because the addresses are no longer valid.

I am not asking because I want to enter the DAR or hope for some inheritance, but to honor and acknowledge the struggle to persevere and thrive during a period of history without cell phones, electric washing machines, microwave ovens and electric lights. I look around my home and see all the comforts therein: telephones and computers which connect me instantly with family and friends, televisions, VCRs and DVD players that entertain me, electric vacuum cleaners and washers and dryers, running hot and cold water, powerful automobiles that transport me to any place my heart desires, and I think, they had none of these. Life was much harder then than it is now. If you didn't work, you starved. Sickness carried off mothers and babies and adults in the prime of life. There were no hospitals for births in the early times. There were no epidurals to ease the pain of delivering new life into the world. I try not to take these things for granted, but I know I do. I can't help it since they are what I've known almost my whole life. But I can certainly appreciate and admire those who came before me who did all I do without the benefits of modern medicine and electricity.

Sorry for carrying on so.

If you are able to help me with any of the names I've mentioned above, my email is deniseann@onlyarethusa.net. There is a problem with my email which sends a message back saying your email has bounced, but it didn't really. Or it probably didn't. I receive every message sent to me correctly and I will respond.
