This Charles Barnard appeared on the Henry County tax lists in 1778,1779 and 1780. This suggests a birth dste prior to 1768. At about that time, Pittsylvania County was formed from Halifax. John Barnard was on the oath list of 1777 in Pittsylvania. Charles was on two deeds in Henry County in 1787 and a grantee on one.
Charles married Lucy Amos, daughter of William, son of Valentine Amos. in 1796, Mary "Molly", daughter of Charles, married Charles Bolt. Lucy was them a widow. Molly had brothers Arch (Archibald), Isham and Valentine. John Bolt, Sr. father of Charles Bolt, had married as his second wife Celia Amos.
Many of the Bolt and Amos families moved to Cabell County, Virginia where they intermarried with Spurlocks.
