FINALLY! A man after my own heart, John Paul. Since old George Barmore/Bearmore/Barrymore, etc. came from coastal NJ, and I see James Bearmore in the peninsula called the Northern Neck (of Va.'s) records, then finding Old George left unpaid bills in Pr. Wm. Co at Dumfries on the Rapahannock River, I surmised he and his came by sea, roads being so scarce in those days. Since Old George's dau. Elizabeth (Betsy?) Barmore m. John Shirley who was first in Fauquier and then in Calfpasture (now Rockbridge Co. What was it then? Augusta?) when my 3 grt grandpappy,Joshua Shirley, was born in 1776. From there they came to Old 96 S.C., church records indicate 1784. What is so interesting to me is the intermarriages between my Bennetts (Va. to Pendleton to GA.), the Shirleys and Barmores of Abbeville, and those Morrises, after they all moved to Alabama: Pickens and Fayette CO's, and then to Lowndes,Oktibbeha, and Choctaw COs. Miss.
I have wondered if the "Morrison" dau. N. Janie mentioned became "Morris"? If "Rhoney" was actually Roane?
Years and years ago I corresponded with Louis Carr Henry, a D.C. lawyer, who gave me a brief resume of his Barmore-Morris lines, but said that after 60 years of searching, no one could PROVE Old George. If George died 1793 in Abbeville, those records apparently are gone. Guess we've come as close as can be after all the burned and lost records. Conjecture or theory that seemingly makes sense. may simply have to do. I hope not.
