In 1840, Marshal Barmore, age 84 and a pensioner, was listed in the household of Ezra Thomas in Williamson, Wayne County, New York. On 8 Dec 1846, Abi Thomas of Williamson swore that she was the sole surviving child of Marshall Baremore and entitled to his pension arrearage through 18 March 1843, the day of his death. She says she has been living 12 years in Williamson and before that lived in Ontario (I assume Ontario, Wayne Co, where the cemetery is). This is in the Final Pension Payment Voucher files at the National Archives. (She was not the only surviving child, as Marshall's son Harry/Henry was alive and living in Boone Co, Ill in 1850). The Thomas and "Rosel Barmore" gravestones in the Furnaceville cemetery are not contemporary with the deaths, but clearly erected later (see findagrave.com). As there is no other known evidence of a "Rosel" Barmore in that generation, the name on the gravestone seems to be a mistake. It is presumably Marshall's grave.

I, too, would be interested in knowing more about the letters at the Wayne County Historian's office.
