Hi Karen,
Just started working on the Barkman line in my family and found some interesting information.
Don't know if this will be the same Mary Elizabeth or Mary E Barkman, or not, since you didn't give any dates, but the location indicates it may be a match.
John and Eva Barkman / Bergman had a son Isaac Barkman who married a Mary E Hamlett, sister to Nancy Jane Hamlett, and at least part of this family was in the IN area in the mid 1800's.
There are others on this site who have more information on this than I do.
