Hi Sheryl,
Thanks for your help. Lydia Matilda Jane WOOD is my g-g-grandmother. I've not much info on the Wood's and it doesn't go back any further than James Wood, Sr. I ran across his family while searching for evidence of Lydia's 2d husband Samuel Barker in Henry Co., IA. I wondered if there were any children for his 1st marriage. Unfortunately, I found nothing on him. Nothing in the censuses and nothing in the land records. The closest I came was a Samuel Parker in the 1854 state census living with dependants next to James Wood. My guess is that the census taker listed him incorrectly. Of course, Alfred, Sarah's husband was Samuel's brother. Another brother, Elijah, came with them to America but returned to England in the 1860s.
I have a 1st cousin named ELLIS Barker and always wondered if he might have been named for Lurena Meranda Ellis.None of the older generation left to ask.
If you need any info on the Nebraska Barkers (originally from Derbyshire, Eng) let me know. I also research the Philbys and Venards. They all seemed to follow the same migration pattern: NY - OH/IN - IA - NE.
